"South to South announce "The Frostbite Sessions", a new concept in winter surfing"
The clocks have gone back, the leaves are gone, the festive season is looming, and Falmouth based surf company South to South are preparing to launch a revolutionary concept for the country's top young surfers.
The South to South "Frostbite Sessions" are the brainchild of seasoned Hayle surfer, and British Junior Surfing Squad Coach Tyson Greenaway.
"Most comps for the juniors are held in the summer months, but the waves are often small, or even flat. We want to give Britain's new generation of surfers the chance to surf in decent waves at the best locations."
The event consists of three, one-day contests, for surfers in categories 16 and under and 18 and under, and based on the best two results, the top four surfers from the series will compete in a mobile Grand Final. They will be taken to the best waves available on the day, be it Porthleven, Bude or Aggie, to battle for the chance to win a lucrative sponsorship deal with event sponsors, South to South. The package will include two seasonal clothing packs, photo shoots, and a vital stepping stone onto a future surfing career. Commercial Director Ant James sees the series as a great opportunity for junior surfers;
"As a new company on the UK scene, we want our first major event to reflect our values. Our roots may be from the warmer climes of Brazil, but good waves in great spots is what it's all about, no matter where you come from. This is an event that we want to build on, and give young surfers what they deserve."
The first event is scheduled for 15th December at Gwithian, followed by Praa Sands on January 19th. The third event location has yet to be confirmed, but will take place on 16th February, with the mobile Grand Final happening on March 15th, to coincide with the opening of South to South's new store in Newquay.
